Neryth was born and raised in a small settlement in Kholusia. Like many others in the area, her family eventually relocated to Gatetown in hopes of one day earning a place in Eulmore. At the age of 16, Neryth was chosen to serve as a general caretaker to an elderly couple whose health had begun to decline. In turn, they treated her as if she were their own granddaughter, lavishing her with both affection and material gifts. Finally, after several years, the couple decided it was time for them to ascend, and fearing that Neryth's unspecialized skill set would prevent her from finding another patron, arranged for her ascension as well. She had, of course, been told that her ascension would be attended by the sin eaters, who were to bring her to the promised paradise. Instead, what she found on the other side of those locked doors were sharpened claws piercing her throat, and the devastating realization that she had been betrayed. Through the agony of her transformation and newfound hunger, she clung to a simple mantra, hoping against hope that she could resist her inevitable loss of identity: "My name is Neryth of the Silver House of Aldermere. I am a bonded citizen of Eulmore.""My name is… is…"Some time later, the forgiven vanity defended Mt. Gulg on its lord's orders, and survived to see the Warrior of Darkness defeat Innocence and begin transforming into the new Lightwarden. Acting on its instincts, the sin eater began to follow the soon-to-be Warden. Although the Warrior's life was ultimately saved and the majority of their excess light expunged, Vanity continued to follow the now-familiar presence. What happened next, and how Vanity arrived on the Source, have been lost to time. What is known is that the woman caring for her, an Elezen named Camelia, is no Warrior of Light or Darkness, yet she appears to hold some mysterious influence over the sin eater. In fact, Vanity has since gained an unnatural intelligence, and is now more akin to a troublesome housepet than a mindless monster.

Being a creature that feeds on aether, Vanity is sensitive to the aetheric alignments of those around her. Voidsent, Ascians, and other dark-aspected beings will elicit a strong negative response. This may manifest as fear, hostility, or mere avoidance, depending on Vanity's mood and how such a character interacts with her.On the flipside, she'll probably assume a significantly light-aspected character is just a weird sin eater. If your character fits this description, congratulations on their new friend!
Vanity remembers her life in Eulmore fondly, and imagery or sounds that remind her of her former home are a sure way to grab her attention. Her memories of becoming a sin eater and the life she had previously have mostly been consumed by the Light, but on rare occasions, a strong enough reminder might spark the briefest of reactions...
Like all sin eaters, Vanity's appetite for living aether is insatiable. Fortunately, she's been trained to not attack people—though accidents do still happen. She can be kept happy and docile by feeding her live animals or small amounts of one's own aether. Of course, if you've ever repeatedly fed an animal before, you'll know this keeps them coming back. You've been warned.
There are a lot of valid reasons for someone to not like Vanity. She's... well, she's a sin eater. Even a character who has no prior experience with eaters can probably tell there's something wrong with her. I am open to IC-appropriate hostility and absolutely won't take it personally.

Vanity is a unique character and can be difficult to interact with. For a smooth RP experience, please keep these guidelines in mind.
• Vanity is smarter than other sin eaters, but that's still not saying much. They can't talk, and understand very little spoken language. They're more adept at recognizing body language and mirroring actions. This still isn't a guarantee you'll get your message across, no matter how clear you try to be, because...• In general, Vanity doesn't really get social graces. Or many ordinary objects. Or much of anything, really. At the end of the day, they're a monster, and while more intelligent than the rest of their kind, they still experience the world from a monster's perspective. They will never be perfectly understanding or cooperative, and that's not them or me being rude. It's just how they are.• In general RP, I try to be considerate of people who may not have finished Shadowbringers or are sensitive to certain subjects. However, Vanity's nature as a Eulmoran sin eater means heavy topics may come up. These include, but may not be limited to body horror, slavery, mind control, cannibalism, and various forms of abuse. None of these topics are likely to be anything more than a passing mention, but even so, please let me know if things start getting into uncomfortable territory for you, and I can drop it.• On a similar note, Vanity's appetite for aether means they eat live prey. I try to portray this non-graphically, and I like to treat it as not unlike how one would feed certain real-life animals. I am an animal lover, and while I do not shy away from the reality that nature can be brutal, I do not appreciate or tolerate any hints or depictions of animal cruelty beyond what is necessary for my character. Do not try to push scenes or discussion past the boundaries of good taste, and please do let me know if you're uncomfortable with this subject being brought up in your presence.• No ERP, no romance. I shouldn't have to explain why. I'd honestly prefer if your character didn't even flirt with them, because as funny as that could be, I'm just not super comfortable with it.• We don't talk about The Oven.
My name's Harmony. I'm 31 years old, an autistic lesbian, and use she/they pronouns. I've been playing FFXIV since August 2020, and have about 10 years of RP experience.Putting myself out there and getting to know people OOC isn't easy for me, but I'd like to try! I prefer to use tells and linkshells for conversation, but if we've interacted multiple times and I'm comfortable enough with you, I'm open to sharing my Discord info. I'm even down for Discord RP if I'm comfortable enough with you.Other FFXIV characters
